By submitting a business to the Black Business Directory operated by Self Care Snob®, you confirm that you have read, understood and agreed to the following terms.

1. Eligibility

The directory is intended to feature Black-owned businesses, brands, independent professionals, creatives and service providers.

By submitting a listing, you confirm that:

• you are the owner of the business or are authorized to submit information on its behalf;

• the information you provide is accurate and current;

• the business meets the directory’s eligibility requirements; and

• your submission does not misrepresent the ownership, services, products or identity of the business.

 

Self Care Snob® may request additional information where reasonably necessary to confirm eligibility.

2. Submission and approval process

Submitting a business does not guarantee publication in the directory.

Every submission is subject to an approval and review process. We may evaluate a submission for eligibility, accuracy, completeness, relevance, professionalism, safety and alignment with the purpose and standards of the directory.

We reserve the right to approve, reject, delay, edit, temporarily hide or remove any listing at our discretion.

A submission may be rejected or removed if:

• required information is missing or cannot be verified;

• the business does not meet the directory’s eligibility requirements;

• the submission contains inaccurate, misleading or deceptive information;

• the business promotes unlawful, unsafe, exploitative or discriminatory activity;

• the listing contains inappropriate, offensive or unauthorized content;

• the business has generated credible concerns regarding fraud, misconduct or customer safety; or

• the submission is otherwise inconsistent with the purpose or standards of the directory.

We are not required to provide a detailed explanation for every approval, rejection or removal decision.

3. Accuracy of information

You are responsible for ensuring that all information submitted is truthful, accurate and complete.

This includes the business name, ownership information, descriptions, location, contact details, website addresses, social-media accounts, images, services, products and other representations.

Businesses must not submit false or materially misleading claims. Canadian competition rules prohibit materially false or misleading representations made to promote a product, service or business interest.

You agree to notify us if important information in your listing changes.

4. Submitted content

You retain ownership of the original material you submit.

By submitting text, logos, photographs, graphics and other materials, you grant Self Care Snob® a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to:

• publish the material in the directory;

• reproduce and display it on our website;

• resize, crop or format it for layout and accessibility;

• use it to promote the directory and its listed businesses; and

• share the published listing through our social-media, email and promotional channels.

You confirm that you own the submitted material or have permission to use and submit it.

You must not submit copyrighted images, trademarks, logos or other material belonging to someone else without authorization.

5. Content standards

Submitted content must not:

• contain false, fraudulent or misleading information;

• infringe copyright, trademark, privacy or other legal rights;

• include hateful, discriminatory, threatening or harassing material;

• promote unlawful activity;

• contain malicious links, viruses or harmful code;

• impersonate another person or business;

• include private information that you are not authorized to publish; or

• contain explicit, exploitative or otherwise inappropriate material.

We may make minor formatting, spelling or grammatical edits without changing the intended meaning of a listing.

Material changes may require approval from the business owner.

6. No endorsement or guarantee

Inclusion in the directory does not represent an endorsement, certification, partnership or guarantee by Self Care Snob®.

We do not guarantee:

• the quality, safety or legality of a listed business;

• the accuracy of every claim made by a business;

• the availability of any product or service;

• customer satisfaction;

• sales, traffic, leads or exposure; or

• the conduct of businesses or customers.

Visitors are responsible for conducting their own research before purchasing from, hiring or entering into an agreement with a listed business.

7. Communication and listing updates

We may contact the email address provided to:

• confirm the submission;

• request clarification or verification;

• communicate an approval or rejection;

• notify you of concerns regarding the listing;

• request updated information; or

• provide information directly related to the directory.

 

Business owners may request corrections or removal of their listing by contacting [insert contact email].

We may require reasonable proof that the person requesting a change is authorized to act for the business.

8. Privacy and personal information

Information submitted for public display, including the business name, description, general location, website, social-media accounts, logo and business images, may be published in the directory and viewed by the public.

 

Contact information provided for administrative purposes may be used to:

• review and verify a submission;

• request additional information;

• communicate an approval, rejection, update or removal;

• maintain the accuracy and security of the directory; and

• respond to questions concerning a listing.

 

Self Care Snob® will collect, use, store and disclose personal information only for the purposes identified at the time of collection, as otherwise described in our Privacy Policy, or as permitted or required by applicable law.

Where applicable, personal information will be handled in accordance with Canadian federal or provincial privacy legislation, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, and applicable privacy and consumer-protection laws in the United States. Privacy requirements may differ depending on the individual’s location, the location of the business and the nature of the information collected. Canadian privacy principles generally require meaningful consent, reasonable purposes, limited collection, appropriate safeguards and transparency regarding how personal information is handled.

We will take reasonable administrative, technical and organizational measures to protect submitted personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, disclosure, alteration or destruction. However, no website, electronic transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

​

We will retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to administer the directory, satisfy legal or record-keeping requirements, resolve disputes and enforce these Terms. Information that is no longer required may be securely deleted, anonymized or otherwise disposed of.

You may contact us to request access to, correction of or deletion of personal information associated with your submission, subject to applicable legal exceptions and verification of your identity or authority to act for the business.

Do not submit sensitive personal information or any personal information that is unnecessary for the business listing.

​

Submission of a business does not automatically authorize Self Care Snob® to send unrelated promotional or marketing communications. Where legally required, marketing consent will be requested separately. Canada’s anti-spam framework generally requires consent before commercial electronic messages are sent, while the United States’ CAN-SPAM framework establishes requirements for commercial email and gives recipients the right to opt out.

9. Removal and suspension

We may suspend, hide or remove a listing if:

• the information becomes outdated or misleading;

• the business closes;

• the business no longer meets directory standards;

• we receive credible complaints;

• the listing creates a legal, security or reputational concern;

• the business violates these terms; or

• removal is reasonably necessary to protect visitors, the directory or the community.

 

Removal from the directory does not prevent us from retaining limited administrative records where required for legal, security or record-keeping purposes.

10. Third-party websites

Listings may contain links to third-party websites and social-media platforms.

Self Care Snob® does not control and is not responsible for the content, availability, security, privacy practices or conduct of third-party platforms.

​

Visitors access external websites at their own discretion.

11. Limitation of responsibility

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Self Care Snob® will not be responsible for losses, disputes, damages or claims arising from:

• a visitor’s interaction with a listed business;

• a purchase, service or agreement involving a listed business;

• inaccurate information supplied by a business;

• interruptions or errors affecting the directory;

• unauthorized use of submitted content by third parties; or

• the approval, rejection, suspension or removal of a listing.

 

Nothing in these terms excludes any right or responsibility that cannot legally be excluded.

 

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the directory, submission process or legal requirements change.

The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued participation in the directory after an update may be treated as acceptance of the revised terms.
